Spain - Old Niza Cinema in Barcelona
Pedestrians walk past the old facade of the cinema Niza in Barcelona, Spain on 11 Feb. 2016. A few meters from the Passion facade of the Sagrada Familia, in the Eixample district of Barcelona, lies the old cinema Niza. This cinema opened its doors in 1946 and is a sentimental place for the neighbors. Due to a lack of agreement between the company that managed and venue owners to renew the lease, the Niza cinema closed its doors on 21 February 2005. The last film screened was "Million Dollar Baby". Currently there is a conflict between neighborhood associations who want to regain the building to be for public use and enterprise that has acquired the building and plans to demolish it and build a mall.
