Iftar Gathering At The 27th Night Of Ramadan In Jakarta Arab Village
Muslims are breaking their fast during a mass break-fasting event on the 27th night of Ramadan at Kampung Arab, West Jakarta, Indonesia, on April 6, 2024. Since the 18th century, local residents of Kampung Arab in Pekojan, West Jakarta, have been hosting an annual iftar gathering on every 27th of Ramadan. Participants are not only locals but also come from other cities in West Java and Central Java. The highly-anticipated event can be seen on the streets around the hosting mosque. During the tradition, popular Middle Eastern dishes such as kebuli rice are being prepared. Uniquely, the tradition is held for men, while women are only allowed to hold the gathering at their homes. The tradition also allows them to meet with relatives and family members they haven't seen in a long time. (Photo by Afriadi Hikmal/NurPhoto)
