Laying Flowers At The Gate Of The Gdansk Shipyard In Gdansk
In Gdansk, Poland, on August 31, 2025, Andrzej Gwiazda, an opposition activist and co-founder of the Free Trade Unions of the Coast and NSZZ 'Solidarity', and his wife Joanna Duda-Gwiazda smoke cigarettes during a wreath-laying ceremony at the gate of the Gdansk Shipyard. On August 31, 1980, the August Agreements are signed between the democratic opposition and the communist government. That month, around 700,000 people take part in strikes, and the newly founded trade union Solidarity attracts 9-10 million members. To commemorate these events, an anniversary is held in the BHP Hall of the Gdansk Shipyard, and flowers are laid at the shipyard gate. (Photo by Klaudia Radecka/NurPhoto)
