Eid Al-Fitr In Mexico

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting observed for spiritual growth and strengthening their relationship with God. According to the Imam or Sheikh, Ramadan derives from the Arabic root ''ar-ramad,'' meaning scorching heat. Muslims believe that in 610, the angel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet Muhammad and revealed the Quran, the holy book of Islam, during Laylat al-Qadr, or the ''Night of Power,'' which is believed to have occurred during Ramadan. The community fasts during this month to commemorate the revelation of the Quran.
