Medjugorje, the journey of Faith
A cross on a steep path that leads on the very place of the apparitions of Our Lady, called Podbrdo and Apparition Hill. On the way towards the place of the apparitions, a large wooden cross was erected, signalling the place where – through Marija Pavlović, on the third day of the apparitions – Our Lady gave the call to peace for the first time. Almost one million people visit Medjugorje each year, where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to six young villagers for the first time on June 24, 1981. For 30 years, the alleged phenomenon was ignored by Roman Catholic authorities until 2010, when Pope Benedict XVI issued an order to form an investigation team to search for the truth in case of Medjugorje sightings. The commission was reported on 18 January 2014 to have completed its work, the results of which it would communicate to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
