'Day Of Silence' Celebrations For Hindu New Year In Bali

To celebrate the New Year of Saka 1941, Balinese-Hindu in Jimbaran held a Pengrupukan ceremony by carrying Ogoh-ogoh (a giant monster-like doll) around the village, Wednesday, March 6, 2019. The dolls symbolize bad things in the world that should be burned to sanctify the universe. This ceremony held one day before the silent day called Nyepi, when the Balinese celebrate the new year by doing self-introspection which involves; no light a fire (including light and emotion), no working, no party, and no going out from home.
