Mobilization For The Right To Manifest In Nantes

On April 13, 2019, at the call of 51 unions, students and NGOs several hundred people gathered in Nantes as everywhere in France to defend the right to protest. This mobilization comes after the promulgation on April 10 of the "Law anti-breakers" (loi anti-casseurs). If the measure allowing the Prefects to prohibit demonstrations, without recourse to a judicial decision, any individual considered a "threat of a particular gravity for public order" was censored by the Constitutional Council, two other very controversial provisions however, they are validated: the one authorizing the searches around the demonstrations, and the one that creates a crime of concealment of the face, punishable by one year's imprisonment and a 15,000 euro fine. According to the signatories, this law constitutes "a serious attack on public freedoms and the balance of power ». The gathering was joined by the Yellow Vests (gilets jaunes) who organized their 22nd act. (Photo by Estelle Ruiz/NurPhoto)
