Russian Soldiers Trial

A judge decided to put alleged Russian soldiers Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov under arrest until 19 July. Moscow has insisted that the prisoners were former soldiers who were in Ukraine of their own volition. Kiev has alleged that they are Russian troops sent to fight in the pro-Russian separatist rebellion that has gripped the country's two eastern-most regions for more than a year. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on 21 May said a representative visited the prisoners at a hospital in Kiev and both claimed they were members of the Russian armed forces who were in Ukraine on a 'reconnaissance mission.'
