Europe's Migrant Crisis
As thousands of migrants pass through the Greek island of Kos, it is taking a toll on the environment. Bathing and laundry are all done for the most part outdoors, near the few open water spouts. Plastic containers including detergents are not properly discarded. The coastal area has become full of litter. The locals who have many restaurants nearby say the beautiful coastline is becoming a “a watery landfill” and that tourists are eating more indoors in their hotel and less outdoors because of the smell and garbage all over the place.
