Housing Development Company Cuts Down Hundreds Of Trees In Mexico

Nearly two hundred trees of the white cedar species protected by the Ministry of the Environment, Official Norm 059-2010 were cut down by a housing development company belonging to the urban complex 'Bosques del Nevado'. on August 16, 2022. Residents of the community of San Juan de las Huertas in the municipality of Zinacantepec, State of Mexico, denounced that the real estate company did not present a permit to cut down the trees, and asked state and federal authorities to intervene. The white cedar is native to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala, in temperate forests, and is used as a windbreak and medicinal tree. (Photo by Arturo Hernández/NurPhoto)
