Sri Lankan Anti-government Protest Against State Suppression
Sri Lankan police fire tear gas to disperse anti-government protesters during a protest against state suppression demanding the resignation of the president Rani Wickremesinghe led government at Colombo, Sri Lanka. 24 September 2022. 84 individuals were arrested by Sri Lanka Police for taking part in the protest organized by the Socialist Youth Union against suppression. Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe declared high security zone (HSZ) in capital Colombo after months of protests in those areas ousted his predecessor and previous government. The move also comes amid fears that some groups could start protests against the government amid worsening economic conditions with reports of higher cost of living and food prices have left many to cut down foods and other essentials.
