SRINAGAR, INDIAN CONTROLLED KASHMIR, INDIA - SEPTEMBER 01: Javaid Ahmad a teacher who himself is not disable, takes class of deaf and dumb students at Abhedananda Home, a school for deaf, dumb and blind students on September 01, 2015 in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian controlled Kashmir , India. Abhedananda Home, a school for deaf and dumb along with blind students in Srinagar the summer capital of Indian controlled Kashmir is finding hard to run the institution owing to lack of funds after the government stopped the grants to it. This school that was established in 1941 presently teaches 100 such special children. The school was severely damaged in last years September floods which killed over 200 and damaged property costing billions of dollars. The government declined any help to restore the infrastructure at this school, school authorities said. Disability is an important public health problem especially in developing countries like India where a majority of the disabled resides where accessibility, availability, and utilization of rehabilitation services and its cost-effectiveness are the major issues to be considered.
