Chicago police use evidence markers to indicate where shell casings are discovered and collect evidence following an overnight mass shooting where seven people sustain serious and critical injuries on South Justine Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois, on July 5, 2025. Seven people are shot in a mass shooting after 11:00 PM, Friday evening on the July 4th Holiday. A preliminary investigation indicates that two unknown male offenders approach the victims on foot. An unknown offender displays a firearm and opens fire into a crowd of people who are standing outside, striking multiple individuals. No one is in custody. A 27-year-old female sustains a gunshot wound to the left leg and is listed in serious condition at Mt Sinai Hospital. A 21-year-old female sustains a gunshot wound to the right thigh and is listed in serious condition at Mt Sinai Hospital. A 21-year-old male sustains gunshot wounds to the right quad and right foot and is listed in serious condition at Mt Sinai Hospital. A 29-year-old male sustains a gunshot wound to the left arm and is listed in serious condition at University of Chicago Hospital. A 25-year-old female sustains a gunshot wound to the left flank and is listed in serious condition at University of Chicago Hospital. A 25-year-old female sustains a gunshot wound to the right buttocks and is listed in critical condition at University of Chicago Hospital.
