People protesting in front of the ministry of justice in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on May 18, 2023. A protest was held demanding proper compensation for the environmental damage caused by the X-Press Pearl ship (2021), which was destroyed by fire in the Colombo Sea. X-Press Pearl was a Singapore-registered Super Eco 2700-class container ship. The vessel entered service in February 2021 and was around 186 meters long. It was operated by X-Press Feeders. On May 20, 2021, X-Press Pearl caught fire off the coast of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
