Canadian Pro-Khalistan Sikhs protest against the Indian government in Malton, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, on May 06, 2012. Thousands of Sikhs attended a Nagar Kirtan to celebrate Vaisakhi and to show their discontent with the Indian government. The Khalistan movement refers to a movement which seeks to create a separate Sikh state, called Khalistan in the Punjab region of India. The territorial definition of the proposed nation is disputed, with some believing it should be carved simply out of the Indian state of Punjab, where Sikhs are the majority population. The Khalistan movement has been declared a terrorist movement by the government of India and it's support and fundraising is illegal within India.

Gorkhaland flag hangs on a wire mesh gate as thousands of Nepalis filled the streets after a hartal (general strike) was called that shutdown the entire city of Darjeeling as well as the surrounding towns affecting the entire hill-station in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, on May 30, 2010. The hartal was called after Madan Tamang, leader of the moderate group Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) was stabbed to death allegedly by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters on May 21, 2010 in Darjeeling, which lead to a spontaneous shutdown of the three Darjeeling hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong. Madan Tamang was one of the leaders pushing for Gorkhaland (a separate Nepali state where the Nepali community would remain part of India but break free from Siliguri and West Bengal).

Canadian Sikhs protest against the death penalty in India and for clemency for Professor Bhullar during the Khalsa Day Parade in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on April 28, 2013. Bhullar was given the death sentence, on August 25, 2001, for the September 10, 1993 blast at the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) office in New Delhi that left nine people dead and many injured. After 18 years of imprisonment, Prof. Bhullar's appeal against the death sentence has failed on 12th April 2013 in the Indian courts. Supporters claim he was falsely accused of the 1993 bombing.

Congress supporters along with other senior Kolkata Pradesh congress leaders seen protesting and Law violation against the Central government over the issue of Peagus and Farmers bill issue at front Of Governor House on July 26, 2021 in Kolkata, India. The news portal wire in its report has revealed that phone numbers of over 300 citizens, including 40 journalists were allegedly snooped via Israeli spyware Pegasus. The Centre has denied all allegations and had issued a rebuttal. Highlighting the Personal Data Protection Bill (2019) currently in the works, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) asserted that India was committed to free speech. The Centre added that the questionnaire sent to Centre was 'founded on pre-conceived notions', MeitY pointed out that Centre's RTI response to the use of Pegasus was itself sufficient.
