Signs are remaining outside the Kerala Secretariat building following the 782-day-long protest for Justice for Sreejith in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala, India, on April 10, 2024. A man from the south Indian state of Kerala is ending a 782-day protest after a federal agency begins investigating his brother's death. SR Sreejith is alleging his brother is murdered by police who arrested him on the charge of stealing a mobile phone. His demand for an independent inquiry into his brother's death is picking up in recent months through the social media movement #JusticeforSreejith. He is ending the protest after federal investigators record his statement. In the face of mounting public pressure, state lawmakers are ordering an internal police investigation into his brother's death. But Mr. Sreejith is refusing, insisting that the case be transferred to India's federal investigation agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Police are saying Sreejeev, 26, committed suicide in custody after he was arrested, but his family is saying he is killed because he is in love with a woman who happens to be related to one of the police officers.
