KRAKOW, POLAND - SEPTEMBER 1: (L-R) Brigadier General Jaroslaw Mokrzycki, Chief of Staff of the Polish 2nd Corps - Land Component Command, Brigadier General Robert Kopacki, Deputy Commander of the Special Forces Component and Col. Pilot Slawomir Byliniak, Commander of the 8th Air Transport Base, during the commemorative ceremony marking the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II at Rakowicki Cemetery, on September 1, 2024, in Krakow, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland. The destructive effects of World War II on Poland's population, economy, and culture are still felt today; over 5.2 million lives were lost, and the nation has been left to rebuild from ruins.
