A view of a lunar eclipse in Rieti, Italy, on May 16, 2022. The total eclipse is perfectly visible to the naked eye, even without the aid of binoculars or a telescope. Our satellite is at the shortest distance from Earth (perigee), a condition popularly referred to as the 'supermoon'. 2022 will also offer us a second eclipse, on 8 November, but the latter will be completely invisible from Italy.

A passenger plane is cruising at 40.000 feet altitude and passing in front of the half moon, on a cloudless sunny spring day as the aircraft is flying over Europe in the Dutch sky. Moonpass is the ultimate goal of aviation photographers, the planespotters. During the flight, the passenger jet is leaving behind contrails or condensation trail, a white vapor line as it passes in front of Earth's natural satellite and closest celestial object in the universe.
