Nepali yoga followers and enthusiasts perform various yoga asanas in Kathmandu, Nepal, on June 21, 2025, marking the 11th International Yoga Day. Celebrated globally on June 21 each year, the day aims to promote the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. The United Nations General Assembly officially declares June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014, following a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 69th UN General Assembly. He emphasizes that yoga is a timeless practice essential for all. The proposal receives immediate and widespread support, with Nepal--under the leadership of then Prime Minister Sushil Koirala--being the first country to endorse it. It is later supported by the European Union and other permanent members of the United Nations. The resolution sets a global record, gaining the support of 177 countries within just 90 days. Since June 21, 2015, International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide. However, in Nepal, Yoga Day is first observed on Magh 1, 2036 BS, coinciding with the occasion of Uttarayan, the period when the sun begins its northward journey--considered auspicious for yoga and meditation.

Mario Sepulveda, one of the 33 miners rescued by the government of Sebastian Pinera in 2010, is attending his funeral. Thousands of people are attending the farewell to former President Sebastian Pinera Echenique, who died at the age of 74, after a helicopter accident in Lake Ranco, southern Chile, on February 6, 2024. The funeral is taking place in the former national congress, Santiago de Chile, on February 8, 2024. The former president served as President on two occasions, from 2010 to 2014 and from 2018 to 2022. It was during his last term that the social outbreak of 2019 occurred, when the former president, through his own words, declared war on the people of Chile. This left a toll of 34 people dead as a result of state repression, more than 400 victims of ocular trauma due to police brutality, more than 3,000 detainees, and 6,800 victims of state violence according to the INDH - national human rights institute - which includes 194 victims of sexual violence. There were also more than 300 attacks on the press covering the protests. Sebastian Pinera passed away while under investigation for his involvement in serious human rights violations during his last government.
