Community of Portuguese Language Speaking Countries (CPLP) Executive Secretary Francisco Ribeiro Telles delivers a speech during a ceremony marking the World Portuguese Language Day at Centro Cultural de Belem in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 5, 2021. World Portuguese Language Day was officially established in 2019 during the 40th UNESCO's General Conference. The Portuguese language is not only one of the most widespread languages in the world, with more than 265 million speakers spread through all continents, but it is also the most widely spoken language in the southern hemisphere.
