Ramesh Lekhak (in white), former Nepali Home Minister, is taken to the Kathmandu District Court from the District Government Attorney Office in Kathmandu on March 29, 2026. The Kathmandu District Court grants permission to keep former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in custody for five days for investigation. Both are presented before the court on the second day of their arrest on March 29, 2026. The government accuses them in connection with deaths that occurred during the Gen Z protests on September 8 and 9, 2025. Authorities have filed charges related to homicide, leading to their detention for investigation. Lekhak is physically presented before the court, while Oli attends the hearing virtually from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. Oli is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, where doctors say he is dealing with several health conditions. He was admitted after experiencing irregular heart palpitations and has a medical history that includes two kidney transplants. According to the hospital, he is also suffering from multiple conditions including hydronephrosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid-related issues, and atrial fibrillation. Doctors have also detected gallstones. Hospital authorities say Oli is currently receiving treatment under medical supervision at the hospital's Annex-1, bed number 501.

On the same day, Prime Minister Balendra Shah took the oath of office during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Kathmandu. The newly formed 15-member cabinet includes five women MPs, ensuring compliance with the constitutional provision of one-third women participation for the first time. Women ministers have been appointed from both proportional and direct election categories. Sita Badi serves as Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens; Sobita Gautam is the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs; Pratibha Rawal is the Minister for General Administration; Nisha Mehta is the Minister for Health and Population; and Geeta Chaudhary leads the Ministry of Agriculture. Article 38(4) of the Constitution mandates women's participation in all state organs based on proportional and inclusive principles, requiring 33 percent participation. Article 84(2) guarantees at least one-third female representation in the House of Representatives, while Article 176 requires 33 percent women's representation in provincial assemblies. Previous federal cabinets had not fully implemented these constitutional provisions until now.
