Healthcare workers clear debris from shattered windows in a ward at Maternity Hospital No. 5 in Odesa, Ukraine, on March 28, 2026. A Russian drone strikes the hospital, which houses 22 newborn babies, including critically low-birth-weight twins. The hospital's bomb shelter, equipped with intensive care facilities for newborns, allows for continued ventilation. Postoperative patients are transferred to the intensive care unit in the shelter. Before rescuers arrive, doctors use fire hoses and extinguishers to extinguish fires in the building and on the roof. The incident results in two fatalities and at least 12 injuries, including a nine-year-old boy.
