On August 24, Vice President Yadav and his Vietnamese counterpart hold delegation-level bilateral talks in Kathmandu. During her stay, Vice President Xuan also pays separate courtesy calls on President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The visit carries special significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Vietnam. Vice President Xuan returns home on August 25.

Ottawa police report that the incident occurs early Friday morning, before 6 a.m., at a home on Provender Avenue, located east of central Ottawa. The victim, 42-year-old Trevor Needham of Ottawa, is pronounced dead at the scene. Needham stays at the residence temporarily but does not live there. The woman, a resident of the home, suffers non-life-threatening injuries. Police take one person into custody in connection with the incident.
