A book about Pysanky includes a picture showing the traditional celebration when parishioners bring their baskets of Easter eggs and Easter bread to be blessed at the church. Members of Northeastern University’s Ukrainian Cultural Club hold a Pysanka-making workshop on campus, ahead of Ukrainian Easter. Designs are drawn with wax and the eggs are dyed in layers, beginning with the lightest color and working up to red or black. At the end, the wax is removed to reveal an elaborately decorated egg.
