Upon investigating, they are observing an adult male seated in the parked vehicle's front passenger seat. The officers are approaching the vehicle and, as they are detaining the passenger, a second male is exiting a nearby store, entering the vehicle, and getting behind the wheel. Police officers are then attempting to detain the male who has gotten into the driver's seat. A struggle is ensuing, and the vehicle is accelerating, initially backward and then forward. One police officer is firing his duty weapon, striking the driver. The vehicle is striking the officers' patrol car, which is positioned at an angle in front of the reportedly stolen vehicle. The vehicle is then traveling forward across the street, onto a sidewalk, and crashing into a building and then into unoccupied vehicles parked along the street. Police officers are providing medical aid to the driver, who is later transported to the hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition.
