The ongoing red rice shortage has a particular impact on the Hindu community, which struggles to obtain the essential ingredient for this year's Thai Pongal celebrations. Sri Lanka faces a notable shortage of red rice, a staple with significant cultural and dietary importance, particularly in the Northern and Southern provinces. This shortage is attributed to a combination of factors, including supply chain disruptions, changes in agricultural practices, and previous government policies. Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe points to the previous government's distribution of 20 kilograms of rice per person ahead of elections as a key factor exacerbating the current shortage.

The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) is presenting the electoral materials that will be used for various elected positions in the capital on June 2, 2024. They are informing that these materials will be placed in the 13,500 polling stations set up on voting day in Mexico City. The tools, which have been in use for more than 20 years, have been reused in previous elections or in the Participatory Budget, saving between 90 and 120 million pesos, which is the cost that would have been incurred if new ones were purchased, according to the institute's authorities.

Protesters are reflected in a puddle left by the previous day's raing as they arrive at the Capitol for a strike against climate change by the youth-led organization, Fridays for Future. This event was one of many held worldwide March 25 by FFF, the global organization begun by Greta Thunberg in 2018. Protesters are demanding policymakers and the private sector take action against the climate crisis and reparations for the ordinary people - primarily in the global south - who have been hurt most by the practices responsible for climate change.
