A man carries an empty LPG cylinder for refilling at a gas agency in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, India, on March 14, 2026. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) traffic through the corridor is severely disrupted due to the current crisis in the Middle East, with cargo movements stalling and importers scrambling for replacements. For a country like India, where a large share of a welfare-sensitive fuel depends on seaborne imports, the global shock quickly becomes a domestic allocation problem.

People gather in front of an LPG agency to have their cylinders refilled in Nagaon District, Assam, India, on March 13, 2026. Long queues outside gas agencies and panic bookings are reported in many cities. The situation is triggered by disruptions in global energy supply linked to the escalating West Asia conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which raises concerns about shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy route for India's LPG imports.

Nepali consumers carry empty LPG cylinders as growing tensions in West Asia halt the supply in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 12, 2026. People wait for hours hoping to refill their gas cylinders. While some manage to purchase filled cylinders, many others return empty-handed as supplies remain limited. The disruption follows the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which heightens tensions across the Gulf region. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route bordering Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman, is also affected by the conflict, disrupting the transport of gas and petroleum products. The impact is now felt in markets around the world. Nepal imports cooking gas and petroleum products via India. However, supply disruptions in India begin affecting the Nepali market as well. The Nepal Oil Corporation, which manages the distribution of petroleum products in Nepal, attempts to ease the situation, but shortages persist. Many consumers say they struggle to obtain cooking gas amid the ongoing supply disruption.

The church spire of the submerged village of Graun protrudes from the nearly completely drained Reschensee Lake during construction work for a new alpine road on May 23, 2024, near Resia, Italy. Reschensee Lake is a reservoir formed by a 1950s dam. The road that traces its edge has become precarious due to unstable mountain rock overhead. To counter the dangers of rockfalls, avalanches, and mudslides, the road and nearby cycle path at Lake Resia near Curon Venosta are being relocated 70 meters closer to the reservoir. Climate change is melting the permafrost that stabilizes these alpine rocks, endangering numerous mountain passes across the European Alps. After the new road is constructed, Reschensee will be refilled. This ambitious project, costing 20 million euros, is expected to wrap up by June.
