Violets growing on a sidewalk. Since the beginning of the lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak in France on March 16th, public parks and gardens, playgrounds are forbidden to the public. For more than six weeks, nobody has intervened in these public spaces. And the cleaning services haven't cut the wandering vegetation which grows in the streets or in the cracks of the city. As a result, nature reclaims public spaces. A botanist, Boris Presseq from the Natural History Museum of Toulouse, keeps an eye on this green explosion. Toulouse. France. May 8th 2020.

'Su Componidori' (the Head of the joust) blesses the crowd with 'Sa pippia de maiu' (a sceptre of violets, literally 'the maiden of May') at the end of the Sartiglia in Oristano, on the Island of Sardinia, Italy on February 9, 2016. The Sartiglia is an equestrian tournament of ancient origins, where masked knights on horseback try to pass a star with a sword, galopping along the track. The traditional tournament is celebrated every year on the last sunday and tuesday of carnival.
