Indonesian Nickel Mining Industry - Weda Bay - Halmahera Island
A resident's agricultural land is suspected of being contaminated by mining waste from a river around the nickel industrial area owned by Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Weda Bay, on August 15, 2024, on Halmahera Island, North Maluku, Indonesia. Massive forest destruction occurs for the surrounding community, including for the indigenous Maluku tribe who protect the forest. Indonesia becomes the largest nickel ore miner and contributes to the world's largest battery technology market. (Photo by Muhammad Fauzy/NurPhoto)
