A woman holds a placard reading 'Give us back the money, your choices are killing our public services'. Between 8,000 and 10,000 protesters march in Toulouse, France, on December 5, 2024, called by all trade unions except FO to protest against the new budget for France in 2025. Workers in public services see the waiting period for illness leave increase from one day to three, their pay while on illness leave cut by 10%, and all their bonuses removed. They protest against the reduction of public services such as education, health, child protection, and public finances. The Barnier budget plans nearly EUR40 billion in cuts to public services. Some protesters want to remind President Macron that the first coalition elected in June in the French Parliament is the New Popular Front. The unions involved include CGT, CFDT, UNSA, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC, and FA-FP. Similar protests take place elsewhere in France.

A woman holds a placard reading 'Give us back the money: CICE, ISF and CVAE. not 64 years.' France's labour unions and left parties led a 5th wave of nationwide protests against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to make the French work longer before retirement. More than 30,000 people protested in Toulouses against the planned reform of pension and retirement age to 64 from 62, a move opinion polls show is opposed by a vast majority (93%) of workers already facing a cost-of-living crisis. The retirement age would be raised to 64 years (for 43 years of continued work) and the pensions will be lower specially for women, 'short careers' and low wages people. The COR (Counsel of Pension Guidance), which depends of the Prime minister Office directly, said on September 2022 in its latest report that it sees no needs to reform the pension system as it shares in the French GDP will remain steady at least 2070. A youg woman holds a placard reading 'Angry journalists, give us our freedoms back'. Thousands of protesters took to the streets after the call of NGOs (Amnesty International, Human Rights League), trade unions (CGT, CNT, FO, SAF ie Union of French Lawyers), journalists' unions (SNJ, SNJ-CGT) and political parties for a protest against the so-called 'Global Security Law' bill promoted by French President Macron and his majority. The 'Global Security Law' bill will also forbid anyone to photograph or film police members if not flouted : transgressors could be condemned up to one year in jail and a €45.000 fine. The French Rights Defender, the French National Commission on Human Rights (administrative bodies) and the UN Human Rights body condemn the planned law saying that it will be a violation of internationals treaties signed and ratified by France, the Universal Human Rights Declaration, general principles of law, etc. They fear a chilling effect on people wanting to use their right to protest, right to personal privacy... and on journalists, photographers, videographers.
