The Irish government has confirmed that it will hold a referendum on reform of the country’s strict anti-abortion laws by the end of May.The cabinet agreed to give voters in the republic the chance to repeal the eighth amendment. If the vote is in favour of repeal, the government is expected to introduce legislation permitting unrestricted abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
