Violence interrupters and police maintain a presence at the scene following an incident where a Philadelphia police officer is shot in the stomach in the line of duty on the 5800 block of Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, on May 7, 2025. A Philadelphia police officer is shot in the stomach while breaking up a large fight outside Overbrook High School, which breaks out around 2:42 p.m. outside the school. As responding police officers break up the fight, a 30-year-old man armed with a Ruger-5.7 arrives at the scene, fires the weapon, and a bullet ricochets off the ground, striking the 26-year-old Philadelphia police officer underneath his bulletproof vest. The officer is taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital where he is undergoing surgery and is currently in critical condition. The officer has been with the department for a little over a year and is assigned to the 19th District in March. The suspect is in custody and no officer fires their weapon during the shooting.

Martin Luther King III, Arndrea Waters King, and Yolanda Renee King and other civil rights leaders joined the Peace Walk this year to march for voting rights. The King family asked Americans not to celebrate the birthday of MLK Jr. if the Senate had not yet passed legislation to protect voting rights, but to take action to stop voter suppression. The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge was chosen to emphasize the message that if Congress can create an exception to the filibuster to pass the infrastructure bill, it can do the same for voting rights legislation. The Senate is expected to vote later in the week on the Freedom to Vote and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Acts.

About 200 people tried to demonstrate, during 6th day of deconfinement (and first deconfinite weekend in eight weeks), despite the ban on all gatherings of more than 10 people within the framework of the state of health emergency established in France to fight against the epidemic of Coronavirus / Covid-19 The participants made up in particular of yellow vests, employees, students, ecologists, feminists, peasants, precarious workers, associative actors intended to take up the demands of the movement of the yellow vests, social mobilizations (emergency strike and in Ehpad, pension reform, unemployment insurance ) who had been interrupted due to confinement as well as denouncing the police violence and the measures deemed liberticide implemented during the covid-19 crisis.
