Victims And Suspect Identified In May 3rd Home Shooting Where 8-Year-Old Boy Died In Newark, New Jersey On May 3, 2023

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II announced that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force has the following update on the May 3, 2023, shooting in Newark, New Jersey, United States where a 8-year-old boy and two others were killed in a home shooting which also injured a fourth person. On Thursday, May 3, 2023 at 8:33 p.m., Newark police responded to a report of a shooting in an apartment on the 300 block of Johnson Avenue, Newark. The decedents from that shooting are Wyleek Shaw, 27 of Newark; an 8-year-old boy who will be identified by his initials (Z.L) because he is a juvenile; and the alleged suspect, Everette Rand, 29, of Newark.
