An Illuminated Pandal Was Created Over A Major River For The First Time In Sri Lanka.
A illuminated pandal was created over a major river for the first time in Sri Lanka to celebrate the poson poya on June 3, 2023, in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. Poson, also known as Poson Poya, is an annual festival held by Sri Lankan Buddhists to celebrate the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC. The festival is the most important Poya holiday of the year and the second most important Buddhist holiday of the year, being surpassed in importance by Vesak. To celebrate this Poson Poya, various events are held all over Sri Lanka. For this, making lanterns, performing religious ceremonies in Buddhist temples, and providing free food to the people throughout the villages and towns are key. This year, for the occasion of Poson Poya, a pandal has been created by crossing a main river (the Kalu River) for the first time in Sri Lanka in the city of Ratnapura, which is located 100 kilometers away from the major city of Colombo. For this purpose, about 20 boats are used across the river, and the height is 30 feet and the width is 25 feet. This pandal is illuminated by about 15,000 light bulbs. The youths of ''Ratnapura Friends Life Society'', who are the designers of this, say that the weight of this design is about 2.5 tons. This pandal is the best pandal ever created in Sri Lanka, and it is also the first pandal to be built across a river. So far, this design has attracted the attention of people all over Sri Lanka.
