Shaheen Al-Khilouti Mosque In Cairo
Views of the Shaheen Al-Khilouti Mosque from the inside The Shaheen Al-Khilouti Mosque is located at the top of the Mokattam mountain slope in the Al-Abagiyah area of the Khalifa neighborhood in Cairo, where it appears behind the burials carved in the mountain, and this area was called in the old days the Valley of the Oppressed. The mosque, built in 1538 AD when Egypt was an Ottoman state was once a destination for foreign and Muslim visitors until most of its contents were stolen. Almost nothing remains of it except the minaret and the dome of the mausoleum, which is at risk of collapse due to neglect on June 11, 2023 in Cairo, Egypt. (Photo by Mahmoud Elkhwas/NurPhoto)
