Monument To The Discoveries
Several people are seen walking near the Monument to the Discoveries in the vicinity of the Rio Tejo promenade. Lisbon, May 16, 2023. This colossal structure was built in 1960 on the banks of the Tagus River in Belem, Lisbon, to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator and to celebrate the memory of all those who took part in the development of the Age of Discoveries. The authors of the work were the architect Jose Angelo Cottinelli Telmo and the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida, who was in charge of the sculptures. (Photo by Jorge Mantilla/NurPhoto)
