Civil War reenactors representing the 23rd Regiment, United States Colored Infantry visit the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. on June 19, 2023, after marching on the National Mall in celebration of the Juneteenth federal holiday. The original regiment was the first African-American regiment to fight in organized combat against Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.
