According to the Yangtze River Three Gorges Navigation Administration, the Three Gorges lock has operated more than 193,000 times in 20 years, passing more than 993,000 ships, more than 12.239 million passengers, and the freight volume through the lock has reached 1.91 billion tons. The Three Gorges lock is the inland waterway lock with the largest number of continuous stages, the highest total head and inter-stage head, and the most complicated technology in the world.
