Arrest Made In Fatal Shooting In Newark, New Jersey On July 2, 2023
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage are announcing that Fuquan Johnson, 34, of Newark, has been charged with murder for the fatal shooting of Tanton Venable, 47, of Newark. On July 2, 2023 at 11:42 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of First Street in Newark, New Jersey, United States. Police are finding Venable suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He is being pronounced dead at the scene at 11:55 a.m. On July 3, 2023 Johnson was arrested and charged with first degree murder for the killing of Venable. He is also being charged with second degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, second degree certain persons, and third degree receiving stolen property.
