Epic Opera Cuitlahuatzin Premieres At The Palacio De Bellas Artes, Mexico City, Mexico
From left to right, Samuel Zyman, composer; Patrick Johansson, researcher and specialist in the Nahuatl language; and Samuel Maynez, Mexican musician, writer, researcher and journalist, during the premiere of the Epic Opera Cuitlahuatzin at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, on july 17, 2023, which represents an opera in the Nahuatl language about the life of Cuitlahuac, warrior, tlahtoani of Iztapalapa and Mexico Tenochtitlan, symbol of struggle and resistance of the Mexica people and of freedom. More than 150 artists on stage recreated passages from the life of the only Mexica hero who defeated the Spaniards during the indigenous resistance on that victorious night of 30 June 1520.
