60th anniversary of the March on Washington
Vanessa German's artwork commemorating Marian Anderson's 1939 performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at a demonstration marking the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Anderson performed at the Memorial because, as a Black woman, the Dauthers of the American Revoution did not allow her to sing at Constitution Hall. The 2023 demonstration was hosted by National Action Network and the Drum Major Institute to both commemorate the 1963 march and call for continued work toward racial equality in the United States.
