Super Blue Moon - New Zealand

A man with his dog looks at the super blue moon as it rises above the sea in New Brighton, Christchurch, New Zealand on August 31, 2023. The blue moon is a term used to describe the second full moon in a single calendar month. But this year's blue moon also coincides with a supermoon, which is when the moon is at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, appearing larger and brighter than usual. It's exceptionally close in Moon miles from Earth (222,043 miles). The last super blue moon occurred in 2009, and the next won't be until 2037 according to NASA.
