Former national cricketer Sachithra Senanayake (wearing a White Shirt) was arrested today after he surrendered to the Special Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Sports on September 6, 2023 The former T20 World Cup winner has been alleged to have phoned two cricketers taking part in the first season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in 2020 from Dubai to request them to rig matches. The former cricketer was arrested after the Attorney General (AG) Department decided to file criminal charges against him because ''sufficient information has been disclosed under the Prevention of Offenses Related to Sports Act No. 24 of 2019.''
