View of the typical narrow cobbled streets of the medieval village of Santillana del Mar SANTILLANA DEL MAR-CANTABRIA-SPAIN 05/12/2015 Santillana del Mar is a municipality and a medieval village in the autonomous community of Cantabria (Spain). It lies on the west coast of Cantabria, a region of which is its eastern end. It is popularly known by the nickname town of three lies, because neither holy, nor flat, nor is the sea (no sea villa although their municipality if any).The town was declared a historic-artistic in 1889. In its vicinity the cave of Altamira, protected as a World Heritage Site is located. It is one of the most visited tourist towns and Cantabria, still a must for tourists visiting the region stopped. This has made much of the town's inhabitants live of tourism, especially the hotel business, rural accommodation and shops of typical products.Since July 2013, Santillana del Mar is part of the network's most beautiful villages in Spain.
