Telegu Culture In Dhaka's Urban Landscape
People from the Telegu community gather around a deep tube well to collect water, which they cannot drink but use for various other purposes, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on October 2, 2023. This tube well serves 126 families in the area. The Telegu community, the smallest in Dhaka city, faces significant challenges and is often referred to as 'sweepers' due to their essential role in sanitation work. They are also known as 'Horizon' or 'Dalito' as they live in densely populated colonies and share modest living spaces. Their daily lives are centered around sanitation work and water collection, with limited access to healthcare, financial resources, and education. (Photo by Syed Mahamudur Rahman/NurPhoto)
