House of Representatives votes on maintaining McCarthy as Speaker
People wait in the Capitol rotunda to continue their tours as the U.S. House of Representatives considers a Motion to Vacate the House Speaker’s position. Introduced by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), the motion would force Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) out of the Speaker’s office. Gaetz introduced the motion after McCarthy joined with mainstream Republicans and Democrats to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government for 45 days, averting a shutdown that would have begun October 1.
