Daily Life In Zamora

Monument to Merlu, the work is located in the Plaza Mayor of Zamora (Spain), in front of the church of San Juan de la Puerta Nueva and was made in 1996 by the sculptor Antonio Pedrero. During Holy Week in Zamora, Merlu is the name given to those couples of congregants of the Brotherhood of Jesus Nazareno whose job is to gather the other brothers to begin the processional parade. The warnings are made by the sound of a muted bugle and a distempered drum. (Photo by Joaquin Gomez Sastre/NurPhoto)
