Toulouse: Gathering Against The Decried A69 Highway

Anne Stambach-Terrenoir, elected MP against the A69, gives a compte rendu of the meeting with the prefets near a banner rreading 'Our house is burning and politicians look elsewhere'. The collective 'La Voie est Libre' (ie 'the way is free') organized a gathering Capitole square in toulouse to give news about two meetings, one between the Prefets of Occitanie and Tarn and elected people for the A69 mainly and another one between the prefets and the collectives opposed to the A69. The collectives quit the meeting after 5 minutes. The other one with elected people didn't go well as the prefets presented the A69 as a fait accompli. People, opponents, elected people ask a moratorium on the building of the decried A69 highway between Youlouse-Castres to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content are given They want public authorities to react to the ecological consequences of this highway. The building of the highway A69 between Toulouse and Castres is underway. This highway would cost (at date) EUR512millions for 54 kilometers. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural field would be destroyed if the A69 highway is built. Toulouse. France. October 13th 2023. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
