Amazon Drought
Tefe (Amazonas), 6th Oct 2023 - Boiled Dolphins: Researchers and veterinarians are conducting a necropsy on a boto (freshwater dolphin) found dead in Lake Tefe, near the Amazon River, amidst the worst drought ever experienced in the Amazon. At least 150 animals - 10% of the region's population - were found dead and rescued by the Mamiraua Institute between late September and early October. Investigations carried out by biologists and veterinarians indicate that they died from heat as the water temperatures reached up to 40?C. (Photo by Gustavo Basso/NurPhoto)
