The Pharmaceutical Industry In India Was Valued At An Estimated US$42 Billion In 2021 And Is Estimated To Reach $130 Billion By 2030. As Of 2023, The Indian Pharmaceutical Industry Is The World's 13th Largest By Value And Third Largest In The World By Volume. But, According To A 2023 Survey, 27% Of Respondents Reported That Medicine Prices In India Have Increased Between 0-20%. 12% Of Respondents Reported That Prices Have Increased By More Than 50%. The Drug Pricing Authority In India Allowed A 12.1218% Price Hike For Scheduled Drugs That Are Under Price Control. This Covers More Than 800 Drugs On The National List Of Essential Medicines. The Annual Increase In Drug Prices Is Based On The Wholesale Price Index (WPI). In 2022, The WPI Was Set At 12.12%. A Recent Report Branded Generics Are Cheaper Than Patented Medicine But More Expensive Than Non-branded Generic Medicine. The Centre Has Withdrawn Its Directive Making The Prescription Of Generic Drugs Mandatory. To Ensure The Safety And Efficacy Of Medicines Indian Government The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) Bans Some Medicines That Can Be Harmful Or Even Deadly. According To IMA Estimates, Less Than 0.1% Of Generic Drugs In India Are Tested For Quality.
